Kinja'd!!!

I have a 7.1 surround sound system running through an Onkyo receiver with an Xbox One on passthrough with my cable box. I want to play an album on my phone through my sound system.

The Onkyo is supposed to take iPod (I think?) but it’s not working. It’s definitely supposed to stream on the network, but it doesn’t appear to be on the network and to get it back on the network I have to go through a ton of setup, so no thanks. Surely the Xbox will work?

Nope. Can’t connect an iPhone to an Xbox, like at all. I have a desktop computer also hooked up to the receiver, but it’s been having audio issues. I don’t think Windows 10 likes my receiver. There’s a PS3 plugged in as well, but I can’t be bothered to find the DS3 to run it (I basically only play GT6 with a wheel anymore).

I am now downloading iTunes on my Surface so I can take music off my phone and upload it to OneDrive so I can stream it through Groove Music, hopefully. EDIT: NOPE can’t pull music off MY phone to put onto MY computer because it isn’t the computer I originally used the phone on. That’s fucking retarded. I own all of this.

Oh, and I totally own this album on a CD but I have no fucking clue where it is. Youtube quality isn’t good enough for what I want.

WHY IS THIS SO HARD?! FUCK!

It’s a very difficult step to take, but a while ago I cut my ties with iTunes and just dealt with CDs; nothing beats a CD (except a vinyl if your’re 3cool5school) but then I took another step. The step I’m talking about is just going with a monthly-paid audio streaming service. I use Spotify. It’s cool. The quality is pretty well good, not a CD, but come on, we’re talking about 0s and 1s traveling through space to play audio though your speakers. Be happy. If you’re not happy, play with your EQ settings until you are content.

NOW, once you have Spotify, load Spotify onto every device that you can load Spotify on. Now you can use Spotify to play music on any device from any device. I’m not sure if I really articulated that well enough or not but the point is, Spotify just works for me. Hell, I can even download and save the music to a device to play offline. I did pay for the service so it’s nice to get something like that in return for my payment.

Or just start using vinyl. No tech is best tech sometimes.

IPhone is unlikely to ever really play nice with XBone so maybe get a Chromecast to plug into the Xbox or a Chromecast audio to plug directly into the receiver.

I’m currently uploading my library to OneDrive so I can play it through the Xbox.

Chromecast isn’t a bad idea, but the last thing I need is ANOTHER gadget.

I have a turntable. Vinyl does sound very good, there’s a certain character or warmth you get from it that you don’t get from digital stuff. I’d never be a purist but I can appreciate it.

I’ve gone away from CD’s because my car doesn’t have a CD player. I use spotify at work a lot. I honestly never really listen to music at home, but I just watched a Daft Punk documentary so I wanted to listen to Daft Punk

fun fact: when you ‘buy’ a song on itunes...you dont actually ‘buy’ it. as it turns out, you pretty much ‘rent’ it for the life of your account.

there was a pretty big actor who got into a dispute with Apple over it, thats how I heard about it. forgot who it was though.

That’ll work but I hate working from cloud based services (fairly slow interwebs). Plus it won’t be kept synced with your iphone/itunes library. I hear you on not needing more gadgets though, how nice it would be if more gadgets/manufacturers could just play nice together.

iTunes got rid of DRM a while ago so you can fix that issue. Go to your iTunes folder, duplicate any files tied to your iTunes account in another location, delete the originals, import the copy and boom, no longer tied to your account.

At least that’s what I did when I transferred everything to a new computer last year. Granted, I didn’t buy much music from iTunes, meaning there wasn’t much to do that to so it didn’t become too much of a pain in the ass.

I know this is a bit late to the party, but: What Onkyo? I know a bit about AV. Hit me up here or the username at gmail.

Right. The iPod/Phone thingie is an add-on for that unit.

Edit: So, my best suggestion is a cheap bluetooth or wifi-enabled music dongle. Chromecast Audio is one option, but there are many others. Sorry, man.

It’s hard because everyone has to make their own shit proprietary so you have to buy THEIR stuff to make it work. I have the same issues at home. Wife has an iPhone, I have a Galaxy, we have 2 windows laptops, an iPad, and XBone all running through a Yamaha RVX-673 receiver.

Sometimes I can get it to talk to my Galaxy. Sometimes.

I finally got it working by using my PC and found a setting to go to 24-bit 192khz sound

It sounded UH-MAZING...for like 45 minutes. Then my computer decided to stop playing sound again.

It doesn’t have anything to do with DRM. This is about usage rights. Just as it is the case with other software. Making a copy does not suddenly absolve you from any agreement you made on the original file.

I don’t care about the agreement, I just don’t want to be bothered with iTunes logins across my computers. The above method of copying and replacing seems to get rid of the connection to my account, that’s why I did it.
